Steep-Roof Colonial — Amherst
A two-and-a-half-story colonial in Amherst with a steep roof pitch that most crews won’t quote without an upcharge. The homeowner had been turned away or quoted a significant premium by two other companies before calling us, simply because of the roofline’s angle and height.
The Problem
Steep, multi-story rooflines take longer to work safely — ladder placement is more limited, harnessing and stabilization take extra setup time, and a crew has to move more carefully across a pitch that doesn’t offer solid footing. That extra time is exactly why some companies either decline the job or price it high enough to make it not worth booking for a routine cleaning.
What We Did
We assessed the roofline in advance from the ground and confirmed the correct ladder and harness setup before starting, rather than pricing it as a standard two-story job and running into surprises mid-visit. The gutters themselves hadn’t been cleared in some time and had a moderate buildup of maple debris consistent with the mature tree cover on the property, but the actual clearing was routine once we had safe access to the full run.
The Result
The full gutter system was cleared in one visit at a price that reflected the added setup time honestly, rather than a blanket “steep roof surcharge.” The homeowner has stayed on our list for seasonal cleanings since, since steep, multi-story homes like this one benefit even more than most from staying ahead of buildup rather than letting two seasons’ worth accumulate. Roof pitch and story count are two of the biggest true cost drivers for any Buffalo home — see our pricing page for how those factors are actually priced.
